Making A New Collection: 10 steps

Now this is the fun part!!! This is (by far) the most complicated part of the website, and it takes some time. Once you get the hang of it though, it’s easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Here are the steps involved:
- Choose and Resize your images. There are three sizes, the first is the detail zoom image (1200px by 1600px), the image next to the item descriptions (750px by 1000px), and the boutique main page image (250px by 333px). You want to make sure you save the images at a lower quality (medium/5 or 6/ 50%). You can resize/save/compress in Picasa or Photoshop.
- When you name your images, use a code. For example, for 2009 Spring Collection 1 small picture, use 09sprcol01small.jpg - (09 = 2009, spr = spring, col = collection, 01 = which collection, small = size of the image.
- Next, upload the images. You can do this at http://shoprge.com/upload - you select one image, hit upload, and it will tell you when it’s done. Then you can proceed to the next one.
- Create a new post. Start at the lowest number, and name it “Collection 12 (or lowest number)” If you have 12 collections, start with “Collection 12″ because the site displays posts chronologically.
- Immediately, go over to the categories box on the right under “publish” and select “boutique items“. This is the crucial step!!
- To the left of the categories, you’ll see a whole bunch of input fields with names like “item detail small”, “item detail-medium”, etc. This is where you enter the address of each image for this collection. So, if we use our naming scheme mentioned above, and you’re working on collection 12, the first image you’ll want to place is 09sprcol12small.jpg. The address will be http://shoprge.com/upload/09sprcol12small.jpg - So you can see, we have http://shoprge.com/upload/ and then 09sprcol12small.jpg. The first is the “directory” and the second is the “filename” If you use the uploader I specified above, all of your files will be in this directory. And, if you use the suggested naming scheme, you’ll always be able to do this the same way.
- Okay! If you got this far, take a break and get a cup of coffee.
- Next, we continue with the form. Under “Item Detail Large” there is a box that specifies what label will be put on the small picture on the boutique main page. So, if this is “Collection 12″, you’ll enter “12″. If it’s “Collection 8″, enter “8″
- After that, it’s the same as entering in the content for the collections. Make sure you check the “Make 1st/2nd/3rd box visible?” check box for any of the boxes you’d like to use.
- And then, most important of all - click on Publish! In fact, you can do this earlier in the process, just like saving your Word doc so you don’t lose your info. I forgot to save a couple of times while making the first winter collection, and I certainly regretted it.
And then, as if it weren’t enough, repeat steps 4-10 with the rest of the collections.
